West Street Market Grand Opening

We sure had fun at this gig. I've worked quite a bit on the stage hand/sound engineer side of Food Bank of Northern Nevada events, so it was especially fun for me to be involved in the role of performer. I got to show off my band to some people I really admire and respect.

Quite a few Friends of Hugo have children aged 6 and under, and this was a very kid friendly event. Performing at 3pm on a Saturday drew a bit of a different crowd than say, 10pm on a Saturday...it's giving me creative marketing ideas.

We donated all CD sales from the day to the Food Bank. There was $112 in the tip jar at the end of our set, and I understand that translates into 28 meals. Not bad, not bad.

And the kicker is, we got our picture published in the Reno Gazette Journal, AND they got our name right. James Cavanaugh and the Charm of Hugo in print - a beautiful thing.

The Charm of Hugo CD Release Party a Smashing Success!

The Charm of Hugo CD release party was Saturday, June 21, and what a party! There were 150 people in attendance (the GM said it was the biggest crowd they had outside in about 2 years), there was a kids-only moshpit, and there were mini-cupcakes with sprinkles! Merch-girl Julia sold 50 CDs while James Cavanaugh & The Charm of Hugo band jammed for more than an hour, performing all the tracks off the CD plus a little extra something from the NEXT album.

Lacey Mattison was joined on stage by Kent Miura for an opening set that was soothing, exciting and enticing all at once.

James was joined on stage by ALL these fabulous musicians (not necessarily all at once):
Steve Hatley
Gary Kephart
Lacey Mattison
Kent Miura
Gary Setzer
Gia Torcaso
Rich Washburn
The madman of sound, Mr. Mark Simon provided his exceptional talents at the mixing board.

Drummer Rich Washburn said he wants to do it again, so I think we just might have to.

Thanks to everyone who attended the show (especially those who traveled in from Carson City and Sacramento) for making it such a happening event. And extra-special-warm-fuzzy thanks to everyone who bought a copy of The Charm of Hugo!
